Σύμφωνα με κάποιους κοσμογονικούς μύθους των αρχαίων Ελλήνων, ο έρωτας είναι η δύναμη που δημιούργησε και συνέχει τον κόσμο, η δύναμη που έλκει και απωθεί τα ουράνια -και όχι μόνο- σώματα.

Ο έρωτας είναι η τάση της ψυχής να έρθει κοντά στην ομορφιά, όπως βέβαια την αντιλαμβάνεται ο καθένας. Σε κάνει να ξεπερνάς τον εαυτό σου, να μεταμορφώνεσαι σε κάτι που ποτέ δεν πίστευες πως είσαι- και όμως να είσαι ο εαυτός σου περισσότερο παρά ποτέ.
